“We’ve talked about it for probably the last decade,” says Cooper. “The region is opening up, welcoming lots of different sports and music and cultural events and it’s nice to be part of that.”

The starting flag was waved by Cooper’s wife, the Grammy-winning rapper Eve with the veritable fleet of supercars, led by a police motorcade, erupted out of the urban oasis of Dubai, setting the stage for a high-speed adventure that would test the limits of both man and machine.

The launch party was illuminated by French Montana’s rhythmic prowess, a prelude to an exhilarating adventure that culminated in a grand finale, featuring yet another unforgettable performance by the artist.

It was in the year 1999 that a dapper gentleman, Maximillion Cooper—the epitome of panache and an ardent admirer of all things automotive—conceived of a unique event that would blend his passions for luxury supercars, globetrotting, and high-spirited revelry: the Gumball 3000.

Gumball 3000 launched its first rally in 1999, when Maximillion Cooper, founder of the event, envisioned a unique event that combined the thrill of a road trip with a glamorous social scene, a 3,000-mile journey across Europe. This first rally, held in the United Kingdom, featured only 50 cars, the entry fee for the rally was $8,700 but it was the beginning of an enduring and wild ride for Gumball 3000.

Over the years, the rally has grown in scope and popularity, attracting celebrity drivers, world-class supercars, and crowds of spectators eager to witness the high-octane spectacle.

Maximillion Cooper, the visionary mastermind behind Gumball 3000, was nothing if not a man with a flair for the dramatic and the evocative. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Andy Warhol, Cooper adopted the term “Gumball” to encapsulate the ephemeral, ever-changing nature of pop culture—an apt metaphor for the wild, explosive nature of the rally itself.

“It was a vision back then,” says Cooper. The enigmatic Maximillion Cooper, the man who dreamt up the idea of Gumball 3000, transformed his vision into a veritable cultural phenomenon, attracting an eclectic mix of the world’s most influential figures from the realms of motorsport, fashion, film, music, and beyond.

The inaugural Gumball 3000 rally was an audacious escapade that mirrored the energy of its founder, Maximillion Cooper. Traversing from the grandiose streets of London to the sun-soaked shores of Rimini, Italy, Cooper designed the event to be equal parts rockstar excess and sophisticated elegance.

In a spectacular fusion of audacity and disregard for conventional regulations, participants of Gumball 3000 embark on a cross-continental escapade where the only law is the law of the open road, and the only rule is that there are no rules.

With an all-star guest list of celebrities, fashion icons, and socialites, the event was a fusion of speed and style that redefined what a car rally could be.

From its humble but no less glamorous beginnings in 1999, Gumball 3000 roared into the spotlight as a pop culture phenomenon, inaugurated with a rally that raced through London and captured the imagination of the world. The star-studded inaugural event drew celebrities such as supermodel Kate Moss and Aussie pop diva Kylie Minogue, heralding the dawn of a new era in the world of high-octane glamor.

The trailblazing 1976 film “The Gumball Rally” was the brainchild of the inimitable Charles Bail, who both directed and co-wrote the script.

Bail’s vision was a thrilling ode to the reckless, high-velocity antics of a no-holds-barred coast-to-coast race, drawing inspiration from the legendarily wild Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash.

Before the dawn of Gumball 3000, Charles Bail’s celluloid ode to the anarchic spirit of speed, “The Gumball Rally,” captured the hearts and minds of car enthusiasts with its exhilarating, adrenaline-fueled narrative.

This cinematic masterpiece was inspired by the infamous Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, a cross-country race from the bustling streets of New York to the sunny shores of California, which was sadly shuttered after only four editions due to safety concerns.

To crown the Gumball 3000 experience, a Middle East-inspired fashion collection in collaboration with the iconic Kappa brand was unveiled in a dazzling display, a testament to the rally’s ability to seamlessly merge automotive excellence with haute couture.

Adding to the awe-inspiring spectacle, local car clubs flocked to the event, bringing with them a breathtaking array of supercars that contributed to the creation of a veritable feast for the eyes, one that firmly cemented Gumball 3000’s position as a cultural and automotive tour de force.

Over the years, Gumball 3000 has played host to an eclectic coterie of luminaries, including, but not limited to:

The incomparable Lewis Hamilton, F1 legend and racing icon

The suave David Hasselhoff, a veritable icon of film and television

Matthew McConaughey, the Academy Award-winning actor

Rapper and TV personality Xzibit,

Singer Usher, whose dulcet tones have enchanted audiences worldwide,

And, of course, the inimitable Tony Hawk, the skateboarding pioneer and legend.

Amidst the swirling excitement of the Gumball 3000, the audience’s experience was elevated to new heights by a cornucopia of pulse-pounding events.
